Travel + Leisure Smitty Award for Passports with PurposeMara (@motherofalltrip) here with amazing news. Beth, Meg, our newest volunteer Katie Aune (you can find her at katieaune.com), and I just returned from the TBEX conference in Toronto where we were honored to accept a Travel + Leisure Social Media in Travel and Tourism (SMITTY) Award on behalf of Passports with Purpose. We were chosen, from hundreds of entrants, as the blog that best used social media, with recognition that 200 travel bloggers participated in our campaign to raise money for Water.org.

I will be attending the awards ceremony on Thursday, June 6 in New York and I’m excited to meet the judges and other honorees. I hope you’ll join me there by following our new Instagram account – I’ll be snapping photos all evening (there is a possibility that one of them will be of Ivanka Trump, who is one of the judges).

It was so wonderful to receive the prize in front of so many of our fellow bloggers and also to talk to numerous among you at the conference. We hope you are as excited as we are about the 2013 fundraiser – we can’t wait to announce our charity. Stay tuned, because that will be coming soon.

This prize is especially meaningful because it recognizes the work of not one individual blogger, but of the entire travel blogging community, who, for year after year, have shown up to help us raise money for a variety of amazing causes. So we’re happy to say to every one of you who has helped: This one is for you.
